Hack Sun: Elemental Clerics

Athasian Clerics are not linked by faith to gods, but bound by pact to the elemental powers; mysterious creatures concerned only with the advancement of their own element, but who see the devastation of Athas as a threat to their power. To that end, they have enlisted certain mortals of Athas to promote their element, and forestall, if not reverse, the destruction of the natural elements.

In practice, they are mechanically similar to the Priests of the Four Corners, from Zealot's Guide 10. However, there are some modifications.

Firstly, clerics must declare their element from 1st level; while some of the spells at lower levels may draw from other elements, a first level cleric always knows who their patron is.

Secondly, weapons allowed are based on use and material, rather than the weapon themselves; earth clerics are allowed weapons of stone, metal, or wood. Air clerics can use weapons that fly through the air, including short spears which might be used in melee or thrown. Water clerics must use weapons from life; wood or bone. Fire clerics must use heated or flaming weapons or, barring that, obsidian is acceptable. Using unapproved weapons is not forbidden, but it will harm the cleric's Honor. As is normal for Clerics of the Four Corners, they begin proficient only in Light Armor, and most will not learn armor beyond that.

Elemental Clerics may Turn Undead, and any elemental of another element, as well as elemental-native creatures like ifreet. They may also attempt to Command elementals of their own element, all following the rules on page 3 of ZG10.

At levels 2, 4, and 5, elemental clerics do not gain a bonus weapon proficiency. They instead gain a mastery die of an elemental skill (see below) they do not already possess, or the one with the lowest mastery if they already possess all of them. Subsequent bonus skills can be any skill appropriate to their element, even if otherwise specified (e.g. an 8th level Senior Servant of the Air Corner normally gains Appraisal of Spices and Herbs; the air elemental cleric can choose any bonus skill from their list).

Water Elemental Clerics do not receive the Able Seaman (10th) or Captain's (15th) Skill Suites; these are replaced with an additional bonus skill die.
