Quest for Savage Glory: Bestiary

While my Magic-User spellbook was expansive, my bestiary is focused on those creatures in Spielburg Valley. I did decide that there were three kinds of saurus... green, purple, and rex, and that the represented a single species at different ages. Partially, I wanted green sauruses as sword fodder for beginning adventurers (I started this to run Savage Worlds for my eldest child); but, also, while I like the VGA version, my heart is with the EGA and its razzle dazzle root beer.

Still to post are the NPCs. I've got a few, but some big ones (like Baba Yaga) are not yet statted.

Antwerp
Attributes: Agility d4, Smarts d6 (A), Spirit d12, Strength d10, Vigor d10
Skills: Notice d4
Pace: 4 Parry: 7, Toughness 7
Edges: --
Special Abilities:
• Bump: Str damage
• Giant Leap: When an Antwerp realizes it is about to be attacked, it may make a Giant Leap, flying up and away at a pace of 12+1d6". However, this leap only lasts for one round. While Antwerps can travel quite quickly in this fashion, they are more likely to bounce along slowly
• Immune to falling damage, and bludgeoning damage
• Death from Above: After ending their flight, they may make a Fighting roll (d4-2) against a target below them. In most cases, they have The Drop on these targets, and, in addition, do additional damage as if the target fell from the height the Antwerp reached (so an Antwerp that reached 18" may do as much as Str+9d6+9 damage). If they encounter a piercing weapon on their descent, that damage is instead done to the Antwerp.
• Delicate: An Antwerp has a tough hide, but they are still vulnerable to piercing and slashing weapons. Any wound to an antwerp causes it to (harmlessly) explode into 2d6 small, baby, antwerps.
• Avocado: Antwerps love avocado.

Bandits
Speilburg Valley has a bandit problem; a large band of them has built a fortress in the southern part of the valley. The collapse of the pass will make them a bigger danger to the town. Most who are encountered will be individuals out hunting, though it's also possible to encounter a small gang looking for loot.

Bears are not common in Speilburg Valley, though they're well-known in the surrounding mountains; the anomalous prevalence of sauruses in the valley keeps the bears out. They are known to winter in the foothills, claiming caves for themselves.

Goblin
Goblins are fairly common in Spielburg Valley, having at least one deep cavern complex where they live. All goblins seen above ground seem to be young adult or adult males; it is not known where any children, women, or elderly might reside, though it is suspected that they stay below, in the caverns. Many of the above-ground goblins have a fondness for gambling.

Saurus, Purple
Adult saurus, usually a year or two old, deepen from their adolescent green, shedding the horns of youth. Their legs lengthen, and they become faster, better hunters. Still pretty dumb, though.

Attributes: Agility d6, Smarts d4 (A), Spirit d6, Strength d8, Vigor d8
Skills: Athletics d6, Fighting d6, Notice d8, Stealth d6, Survival d8
Pace: 8; Parry: 5; Toughness: 6

Saurus Rex
The Saurus Rex is the fully mature form of the Spielburg saurus subspecies. Many do not reach this age, slaughtered for food, leather, and oil as green sauruses, or in mating battles in the purple phase. Extremely hostile, even to other sauruses, the Saurus Rex is best avoided.

Special Abilities:
*Armor +2
*Bite: Str+d6
*Swift: Running die is d10; can sprint for Vigor minutes (8 minutes)

Troll
The trolls of Spielburg Valley are of the "northern" variety; where their southern cousins regenerate quickly from damage, northern trolls are simply tough, their skin heavily armored and resistant to fire. However, they are extremely sensitive to light, and so tend to be about only during the nighttime (or in caves).

Attributes: Agility d6, Smarts d4, Spirit d6, Strength d12+2, Vigor d10
Skills: Athletics d6, Fighting d8, Intimidation d10, Notice d6, Stealth d4, Survival d6
Pace: 6; Parry: 6; Toughness: 13 (4)
Edges: Brute, Sweep (Imp)
Gear: Maul (Str+d10)
Special Abilities:
*Armored Hide: +4 Armor
*Fire Resistant: Trolls have an additional 4 points of armor against fire attacks.
*Light Sensitive: Trolls react poorly to bright lights; they see perfectly well in absolute darkness. However, suddenly encountering a bright light (a torch being kindled, a lamp being uncovered, a Dazzle spell) requires them to make a Vigor test or be Distracted for one round. Effects that have their own tests (such as the Dazzle spell) are resisted with a -4. Note that the light must be sudden (such as an uncovered lamp), or pervasive (such as daylight); a troll will adjust just fine to a torch or lamp at a distance, and happily extinguish it after they eat the person holding it.
*Resilient: Trolls can take one Wound before being incapacitated
*Size +2: Trolls are 8 or 9 feet tall, and more solidly built than their lanky southern cousins.
